S.J. Crawford copies of letters sent and essay, 1868-1905.

Four letters and one essay, all written by S.J. Crawford. The first letter discusses Indian attacks on settlers and workers in the state, the second letter argues against retaliation for the explosion of the U.S.S. Maine in Havana in 1898, and the third and fourth letters were written in response to a request for information. The essay is a denunciation of colonialism and lax government oversight, which Crawford believed led to an abuse of political power overseas and an economy driven by corporate greed.
